Dan Luttrell
Dan first turned in high school. He continued working with wood in various forms, but the turning bug struck again in 1985 when he made some candlesticks. Since then, Dan turned a few projects, learning on his own. In 1997, found the newly-formed Richmond Woodturners. There he discovered the true joy of woodturning and learned quickly from associates there and in the American Association of Woodturners.
Engineering was Dan’s day job, and he takes advantage of that experience to resolve the technical challenges that he asserts upon himself at the lathe. As he looks at a potential turning project, he always stops to consider the “what if” factor.
Dan does not portray himself as an artist, but woodturning has provided him a creative outlet. He enjoys making things from wood that are generally made from other materials. So look for something beyond the ordinary in his work, maybe even a little whimsy.
